Slade Collins
and the Secret of Tahawus
Chapter 1: “Lucille”
Money
Every dollar from a cash pickup is also worth 10 points, and Slade opens each stack with a “Well, hot damn!” In the club, cash on the floor glints once the room is clear.
Utica
| Where | Amount | How to get it |
|---|---|---|
| Roof behind Cafe Cappelli | $10 | Get the statue to move (see Walkthrough: Utica), take the stairs in the alcove behind it, and follow the roof north. |
| Dark parking lot, one screen east and one screen north of the Cafe | $15 | Just walk in. |
| The man with the camera, on the grass one screen east of where you start | $20 | He asks for a dollar. Say YES and he pays you back twenty. He won't ask if you're broke, so grab some cash first. |
The Two Times Club
| Room | Amount | Where |
|---|---|---|
| Main Bar | $10 | Behind the bar. Break the crate in the counter with the Hammer. |
| Card Room | $5–$8 | Right side, level with the card table. |
| Bookkeeper's Office | $7–$14 | Bottom-left corner. |
| Stockroom | $8–$15 | Top-right alcove. |
| Stockroom | $10 | West corner, behind the crates. Needs the Hammer. |
| Security Room | $7–$10 | Bottom-left corner. |
| Tony's Lounge | $12–$19 | Left side, about halfway down. |
Amounts with a range are rolled when you pick the cash up, and each stash pays once. Crates and beaten enemies can drop a few dollars too, but that money doesn't add to your score.
Bookshelf finds
Press A at any bookshelf in the club. Most of them have nothing, but these four do, and each one pays out once.
| Room | What Slade finds | Reward |
|---|---|---|
| Bookkeeper's Office | “What's this a grenade?” | A grenade |
| Card Room | A copy of Horror Conventions of Central New York with money tucked inside | $5 |
| Private Landing | Cacciatore-22, the autobiography of James S. Cacciatore | $10 |
| Stockroom | A weird orange backpack | A grenade |
Cafe Cappelli has two bookshelves of its own. The right one hides a grenade, and the left one is just “Italian for dummies.”
The Brackish DVD
The biggest single score in the chapter: 5,000 points. It's in the Macartovin basement, behind three crates and a switch puzzle. Slade holds it up while Also sprach Zarathustra plays and the points count up. It doesn't do anything else. See the basement walkthrough for the switch order.
Shortcuts in the club
- Workshop to Bookkeeper's Office: break a crate in the Workshop's east wall with the Hammer. Swing from the Workshop side. It saves you the walk back through the Stockroom.
- Crates come back each time you enter the club through the front door, so you'll need to break the Kitchen's and the Workshop's again.
Things worth a look in Utica
- Slade's Jeep, one step from the start: press A beside it. The thief left it a mess.
- The pizza war. Geno's Pizza and Sully's Pizza sit side by side. Read one sign, then the other, and keep going back and forth. They argue for eight rounds. After that, both signs just say “Bring it on!”
- Building signs on Grace Church, the State Office Building, the Macartovin apartments and the Delta Hotel.
- The Mechanic outside the Cafe says Tony's boys have been stealing car parts again, and he saw a few behind the Macartovin.
- The Fancy Man on Genesee Street lost his club card at a bar. Talk to him again once you have the card from Denny and he says: “Hey you found my card card! Meh you can keep it, that Tony guy is a creep.”
- The two goons on the corner won't move and won't fight. They just have a line each.
- The Macartovin mailboxes. After you've talked to Denny, read all four. The other three tenants each get a comment from Slade.
- The title screen. Leave it up for a moment and watch the stars twinkle.
